Top 5 Coastal Nature Sights to Visit from La Jolla to Oceanside –
“North San Diego Coast Line”
La Jolla is the Jewel of the Coast and famous for the La Jolla Cove where you can view Sea Lions up close or you can take out a Kayak and test your skills (you will just need to get off the Beach)
The First place that I have always enjoyed is the Sea Lions at the La Jolla Coves although there is much controversy on the Sea Lions I still enjoy going and viewing them, La Jolla is an easy drive from the Tamarack Beach Resort.
Solana Beach is a very Artsy town with Art Galleries and Open Air Art Markets (great for someone looking for something unusual and hand created). You may want to come a little later in the day to visit Solana Beach so that you can Dance the Night away at the Famous Belly up Tavern http://www.bellyup.com/venue/detail/belly-up
The Second place to visit is Tide Beach Park located in Solana Beach
Tide Beach Park is a secluded stretch of sandy beach at the north end of Solana Beach. The beach is hidden by steep bluffs and accessible by staircase. It has a large reef, called Table Tops, which offers good surfing, snorkeling, surf-fishing, and swimmi
“Historic Encinitas” fills the Highway 101 Corridor that parallels the beautiful beaches and Ocean
The Third Place is the Largest Coastal Wetlands the San Elijo Lagoon http://www.sanelijo.org/naturecenter.html in Encinitas
“The visitor center at the San Elijo Lagoon is open to the public from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday – Sunday. The center is an excellent vantage point from which to explore the Ecological Reserve and its more than seven miles of hiking trails. Admission to the nature center is free. On Saturdays, you can join a Conservancy naturalist for a free guided walk at 10 am.”
Village of Carlsbad home to Legoland and the Carlsbad Flower Fields
The Fourth place to visit is the Batiquitos Lagoon located in Carlsbad
“The lagoon is home to many different wildlife species, including plants, fish and birds. Endangered birds such as the Snowy Plover, California Least Tern and Clapper Rail have been spotted there.
The public walking and hiking trail along the lagoon’s north shore is currently 1.3 miles long, and additional trail segments are planned. The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation offers many different docent-led walks along the trail from its nature center at 7380 Gabbiano Lane. The foundation also provides informational pamphlets for self-guided nature walks. There are several access points to the north shore trail, primarily along Batiquitos Drive” courtesy of the City of Carlsbad
The gateway to San Diego, Oceanside is the classic California beach community with its warm sandy beaches, historic wooden pier and Cape Cod-style harbor village complete with unlimited water sports and recreation
The Fith place to visit is in Oceanside the Buena Vista Audubon Nature Center http://www.bvaudubon.org/
“Home to the Buena Vista Audubon Nature Center, and California’s first Ecological Reserve, Buena Vista Lagoon is a 223-acre wetland habitat located within the cities of Carlsbad and Oceanside. It is owned and managed by the California Department of Fish and Game. At least 103 bird species, 18 mammals, and 14 amphibians and reptiles live in and around the lagoon, and many more birds visit during spring and fall migrations. Altogether, over 200 bird species have been observed.” courtesy of Buena Vista Audubon
