Did you know that there is so much to Explore and Learn on the San Diego North Coast? I have attached the Discovery Interactive Map so that you can follow along the Route http://www.discoverymap.com/California/San-Diego-s-North-Coast-California-Interactive-Map.html I thought we would start with the Jewel of the North San Diego Coast La Jolla.

La Jolla is the Jewel of the Coast. Being on the Jagged Cliffs you will find this cozy town lined with Exceptional Boutiques and the Finest Ocean View Dining. La Jolla is Famous for their Cove where you can view Sea Lions up close or you can take out a Kayak and test your skills (you will just need to get off the Beach) but most importantly is Torrey Pines. Torrey Pines is one an Elite Golf Course, where you may want to test your game on the Beautiful Course http://www.torreypinesgolfcourse.com/

Next on our Journey is the Exclusive Del Mar which is Famous for two Events. The First is the Del Mar Race Track http://www.dmtc.com/ “Where the Turf meets the Surf” and the Second Event is the San Diego County Fair del mar race track Touring San Diego North Coast Line

http://www.sdfair.com/fair/ the Fair is in June of 2010. All excitement aside there is some really cool History here. The Downtown which dates back to the 1880”s, with many historic buildings like the Library which is a great place to stop and see. While walking along all the Shops on Main Street you may want to have a quick drink at one of the many Restaurants available.

Know lets Explore Solana Beach which is known for the Fiesta de Sol (Fletchers Cove) http://www.solanabeachchamber.com/chamber/fiestadelsol/ fds logo Touring San Diego North Coast Line

Solana Beach is also a very Artsy town with Art Galleries and Open Air Art Markets (great for someone looking for something unusual and hand created). You may want to come a little later in the day to visit Solana Beach so that you can Dance the Night away at the Famous Belly up Tavern http://www.bellyup.com/venue/detail/belly-up

“The internationally acclaimed Belly Up Tavern located in Solana Beach, has a long history of bringing great live music to the San Diego area. The Belly Up has been continually voted “San Diego’s Best Live Music Venue” by several publications including the Union Tribune, The Reader and San Diego Magazine as well as heralded as one of the hottest clubs on the west coast by Rolling Stone Magazine “

Off to Encinitas known for the Largest Coastal Wetlands the San Elijo Lagoon http://www.sanelijo.org/naturecenter.html

“The visitor center at the San Elijo Lagoon is open to the public from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday – Sunday. The center is an excellent vantage point from which to explore the Ecological Reserve and its more than seven miles of hiking trails. Admission to the nature center is free. On Saturdays, you can join a Conservancy naturalist for a free guided walk at 10 am.”

Now for some of that History we all love in Downtown, Solana Beach is home to the La Paloma Theater. La Paloma Theater was built in 1928 and was one of the first theaters to show

“Talkies”

Now we are entering the Village of Carlsbad home to Legoland http://www.legoland.com/ and to the Carlsbad Mineral Water Spa http://www.carlsbadmineralspa.com/map Touring San Diego North Coast Line. There is plenty of Antique Shops and Eateries in the Village but just two blocks North and you will find yourself on the Beach and a great Walking / Jogging Path that many Locals and Visitors alike enjoy year round. The Tamarack Beach Resort is located right across from the Beach and the Walking Path http://www.tamarackresort.com/

Before you leave Carlsbad stop by Dini’s by the Sea for a Sunset Dinner and enjoy the California Sunsets. carlsbad village Touring San Diego North Coast Line

Our Last stop is right over the Lagoon to Oceanside famous for the Marine Corps Camp Pendleton. Oceanside is considered the “Gateway between Metropolitan San Diego and Los Angeles. If you are still looking for more History there are two that come to mind, the first one is San Luis Rey Mission http://www.sanluisrey.org/

“Welcome to Mission San Luis Rey de Francia, a National Historic Landmark founded in 1798 located in Oceanside, California. Known as the “King of the Missions”, it is the largest of the 21 California Missions.”

and the second is the historical Oceanside Pier. The Oceanside Pier is 1,942 feet in length and is one of the longest wooden piers on the West Coast. Just a quick tip for the Fisherman in your Family, they do not need a Fishing License to fish on the Pier. Last but not least is the Buena Vista Audubon Nature Center http://www.bvaudubon.org/

“Home to the Buena Vista Audubon Nature Center, and California’s first Ecological Reserve, Buena Vista Lagoon is a 223-acre wetland habitat located within the cities of Carlsbad and Oceanside. It is owned and managed by the California Department of Fish and Game. At least 103 bird species, 18 mammals, and 14 amphibians and reptiles live in and around the lagoon, and many more birds visit during spring and fall migrations. Altogether, over 200 bird species have been observed.”
